Build Nova Scotia appoints Chief Operating Officer & Vice President of Operations

June 29, 2023—Halifax Nova Scotia: Gordon Stevens has been appointed to the position of Chief Operating Officer & Vice President of Operations for Build Nova Scotia.
Gordon has been digging in to provide strategic guidance and help stand up our new corporation since day one and, in this role will continue to steer our work to consolidate our operations and financial responsibilities, while ensuring his signature brand of creativity is working hard to develop and activate some of Nova Scotia’s best-loved places. In particular, his fingerprints are all over the Halifax waterfront. He worked in the area for close to 20 years—first as an entrepreneur and for the last number of years at Develop Nova Scotia. In his time as an entrepreneur not only did Gordon run many successful small businesses, but he was an active champion for all things local, creating the “I Love Local” movement and founding one of Halifax’s most popular events, Open City.
It is this crossroads of commerce and community that led Gordon to create the Evergreen Festival in 2020. The festival is an opportunity for community to come together around the holidays and an opportunity for small local companies to do business on the waterfront and reach new audiences.
Gordon has extensive experience in the areas of business development, finance, leadership, and strategy. He has worked both in private and public sector for some of the most leading-edge organizations and previously served as the COO & Vice President, Finance for the former Develop Nova Scotia.
A proud Nova Scotian, Gordon is an active community volunteer, and has sat on the boards of Taste Nova Scotia, Tourism Nova Scotia, Downtown Halifax Business Commission, and the Arthritis Society of Canada. In 2017, Gordon was recognized for Excellence in Community Based Retailing by Saint Mary’s University at their inaugural Canadian Retailing Awards.
We are delighted that Gordon continues to remain close to his Nova Scotia roots and is committed to helping build stronger communities across our Province.
