Louisbourg Visitor Experience Project

Over the past several months, Develop Nova Scotia has been working many stakeholders to develop a Louisbourg visitor experience project for the waterfront and Main Street. With a focus on creating a social and economic gathering place for locals and visitors alike, it would include a new Parks Canada visitor arrival centre within the heart of the downtown.

In conjunction with Cape Breton Partnership, a community session was held March 23rd, which included an in-person Public Open House and virtual Public Open House during which the community provided input, asked questions, and identified key priorities for the project team. This input will be incorporated as the project moves forward. Below are links to the recording of the virtual community session and the presentation that was shared.

In the coming weeks, a “What We Heard” document will be added to the list of reference documents listed below that will ensure all input has been properly captured and understood.

Using the design concepts reviewed with the community on March 23, 2021, we will now begin to undertake pre-design work which will involve a number of steps. At the same time, we will be looking to the community to help us form an Advisory Committee. This community committee will guide the project through these steps, re-engaging the entire community once again to review the draft plans for feedback, confirming support for the plan, before proceeding to implementation.

As there will be a number of updates throughout this process, please check back to this page regularly, which will act as a source for updated information on the project.
