Community-Led Placemaking Program
ABOUT
Community group “Bay it Forward” turned Glace Bay’s town square into a vibrant work of art for community members to enjoy. The group added colourful seating, lights, and local artwork to the town square to create a welcoming local gathering place. The space and sidewalks surrounding the town square then became their own works of art, giving local kids the chance to add their own splash of colour to the town with downtown sidewalks as their canvas.
New public art, hand-painted planters, seating, and lighting contribute to a welcoming and comfortable This work was complemented by the creation of a 20-foot, mobile sea-can stage used at locations throughout Glace Bay to support events and provide a site for local entertainment.
