Halifax Waterfront Marina Receives Blue Flag Eco-Certification
It’s lucky 13 for the Halifax Waterfront Marina!
With another vibrant waterfront season underway, both on land and at sea, our marina is proud to showcase the esteemed Blue Flag eco-certification for the thirteenth consecutive year.
The Blue Flag is more than just a badge—it’s an internationally recognized award that transforms a marina into a beacon of responsible environmental management.
“We are one of just seven marinas across Canada to receive this award and the sole location in Nova Scotia this year,” said Ian Homosits, Marine Program Manager at Build Nova Scotia.
To qualify, a series of stringent environmental, educational, safety, and accessibility standards must be met and maintained annually. The Halifax Waterfront Marina is home to more than 3,000 linear feet of docks welcoming a myriad of vessels from yachts to fishing vessels as part of its popular public berthing program.
“When locals and visitors see the Blue Flag raised at our marina, they know it’s sustainably managed and signals that we take our responsibility to the environment seriously. We’re proud to work closely with our team at Build Nova Scotia, partners and the community to bring this recognition to life through action and awareness,” Ian said.
The annual award announcement lines up with global events such as World Environment Day and World Ocean Day, highlighting the community’s commitment to protecting the beauty and health of our land and oceans.
