David Benoit Appointed New NSCC President
The Province has appointed David Benoit as the next President of Nova Scotia Community College (NSCC), following a national search led by the college’s board of governors.
He currently serves as president and CEO of Build Nova Scotia, overseeing major infrastructure initiatives across the province. This has given him direct experience with the skilled trades and workforce demands associated with building hospitals, schools and other critical infrastructure. His new appointment begins on January 1.
“David Benoit brings decades of leadership experience and a proven track record of building strong organizations and partnerships,” said Nolan Young, Minister of Labour, Skills and Immigration. “His experience leading technical education and training in the Royal Canadian Navy gives him a unique understanding of one of Nova Scotia’s fastest-growing sectors as we continue to strengthen our position as Canada’s defence capital. He is exceptionally well positioned to lead NSCC into its next chapter.”
Mr. Benoit served for 30 years in the Royal Canadian Navy, holding senior leadership roles including commandant of the Canadian Forces Naval Engineering School and commanding officer of Fleet Maintenance Facility Cape Scott, both in Halifax. He oversaw technical education and training, workforce development, organizational transformation and large multidisciplinary teams while developing partnerships with post-secondary institutions in Canada and abroad. He retired with the rank of captain.
Following his military service, Mr. Benoit joined the Province as senior executive director of Strategic Investment and Infrastructure Planning with the Department of Health and Wellness.
Acting NSCC President Anna Burke will resume her role as vice-president, college services and strategy, when Mr. Benoit assumes his duties.
