Windsor Public Housing Another Step Closer
Public housing that will provide homes for 16 individuals or families in Windsor is another step closer.
The Province has issued a request for proposals (RFP) to complete the detailed design work and to build two 8-unit apartment buildings on Crossley Court.
“This project continues action on our five-year housing plan, supported by the Province’s largest investment ever in public housing – more than a-quarter-of-a-billion-dollars,” Housing Minister John White said. “This investment gives people a safe, comfortable and affordable place to live – one less thing to worry about so they can focus on work and family or enjoy their retirement.”
Together, the two buildings will include:
- 11 one-bedroom apartments
- three two-bedroom apartments
- two three-bedroom apartments
Two apartments will be fully accessible and the design is adaptable so other apartments can be made accessible, if needed.
Each apartment will have a terrace or balcony and its own private entrance. They will include energy-efficient appliances and heat pumps to keep apartments warm in winter and cool in summer.
Work is expected to start on site in late spring, depending on the tender responses.

Quick Facts:
- the RFP requires the construction of low maintenance, high quality apartments, built to last 50 years or more
- the project supports the government’s five-year housing plan, Our Homes, Action for Housing; in line with the plan, the government has committed $251 million to build 515 new public housing units for more than1300 people across the province
- tenants will not pay more than 30 per cent of their income, before taxes, on rent
- 69 per cent of current public housing tenants are seniors, 25 per cent are families and six per cent are couples or individuals younger than 58
