ABOUT

Project planning and capital funding will support required building stabilization and roofing work at the historic Zwicker and Co. Ltd. building located on Bluenose Drive. The three-storey, 12,000-square-foot, wood-frame building has elements dating back to the late 1800s and is a prominent building on Lunenburg’s working waterfront, part of the UNESCO World Heritage site.

Build Nova Scotia is creating a plan to enhance the site for a growing recreational local and visiting boating market. These enhancements include showers, accessible washrooms, laundry facilities, wharf power and water, and a visitor reception area.

BACKGROUND

The Zwicker Wharf boardwalk provides important public access along the working waterfront and a connection between the park area, Wharf A (Zwicker Wharf), and downtown Lunenburg.

Wharf A, which underwent repairs, is home to free public daytime berthing as part of an expanding marina program that includes additional floating docks. Additional park upgrades include seating areas, landscaping, and signage.

The Lunenburg Waterfront Marina also continues to see enhancements for boaters. These include improved wharfage, floating/dinghy docks, bathrooms, showers, laundry facilities, improved signage and itineraries, and increasing alignment with suppliers. The shower and laundry facilities were added for the 2018 season near Zwicker.
