Halifax Waterfront

The waterfront will always have a magnetic pull for visitors and locals. The 4.4km Harbourwalk is buzzing with energy. On the water, sailboats, ferries, cargo ships and naval vessels are a regular sight, while on land there are unlimited opportunities to experience local culinary and cultural experiences, chill on a bench or a hammock, enjoying that salty maritime breeze.

The Halifax waterfront is brimming with maritime history, lively culture, and magnetic experiences. With everything from local shops and eats, to museums and outdoor experiences–the Halifax waterfront has everything you need in the heart of the city.

Getting Here

The waterfront is located on Lower Water Street in downtown Halifax and is easily accessible by public transit, car, wheels, or on foot. Bike paths run along Lower Water Street, with multiple places to stop or park your bike to take in the sights or get in on the action if you want to jump off the bike. Walk or roll along the Halifax waterfront boardwalk and enjoy shops, experiences, performances, and food on offer.

You can reach the Halifax waterfront by bus or ferry with Halifax Transit. Visit halifax.ca for more information on transit options.

Our sailing season typically runs from May to October, with the Halifax Waterfront Marina offering multiple berthing locations across 1.5 kilometres of public berth space. Daily berths along the waterfront are free of charge with your registered berthing pass.
